2008 – What A Time– What A Success!
There is something magical about people who come together to help
others and something even more special happens when they come together
in honor of a truly giving spirit. That’s what happened again
during the 16th Annual 2008 Tommie Agee Foundation Gala Event and
Golf Classic. Friends, Family, Celebrities, Dedicated Volunteers
(over 40 this year!) and Generous Sponsors all came together October
17th and 18th to celebrate Tommie Agee’s dedication to others
and when it was all said and done, over $40,000 had been raised
for local charities and scholarships! We are humbled and grateful
at this year’s wonderful turnout of 240 and all their support.
This special weekend started on Friday evening at Holiday Inn -
Bellingrath Gardens where we enjoyed extraordinary hospitality and
service as we ate delicious food and danced to the incredible music
of Grammy Award winning producer and jazz guitarist, Dennis “Finger
Roll” Nelson and Charles “Bo” Grant, formerly
of the world famous Platters as well as local entertainers. We also
established the Jimmy Plummer Spirit Award in honor of Jimmy, a
close friend of the Agee’s and an Honorary Lifetime Chairperson
of the Foundation.
Up again at dawn, everyone headed to the Magnolia Grove Golf Course
in Mobile to tee off the 16th Annual Tommie Agee Charity Golf Classic.
Local Officials kindly joined us and they and the Celebrity Golfers
were introduced and welcomed. The Shotgun start happened at 8:30
and 140 golfers headed out. Saucy Q Bar-B-Q provided lunch for hungry
golfers and at the end of the day, there were prizes and awards
and acknowledgments all around to the Tournament and Hole Sponsors,
the Celebrity participants and the tireless efforts of the volunteer
staff. Later that evening, we regrouped at Holiday Inn – Bellingrath
Gardens again where we recapped the day, enjoyed a feisty Silent
Auction filled with exciting, unique and special items/sports memorabilia,
many of which were donated by the Celebrity Golfers and Tommie’s
friends and then relaxed to more of the delightful music we had
heard the night before as we ate, drank and celebrated the weekend’s
successes. We sincerely hope you will Save The Date and join us
in 2009 to once again, honor the memory and legacy of Tommie Agee.
